Alex and I decided to be Sam Shakusky and Suzy Bishop from the Wes Anderson film Moonrise Kingdom. I was inspired after watching the movie on the plane to New York and figured it would be an easy costume to put together considering we didn't have a lot of time to prepare.
Alex's costume was easy -- he pretty much had everything but bought the hat and canteen online then the patches, bandana and socks from an army surplus store on Market St.
I used this old pink dress I wore to Tomiko's baby shower and purchased this peter pan collar from H&M for $10 and 50's saddle shoes from Payless for $30.
I then added some blue eyeshadow and committed to a pout throughout the whole night.
Now all Alex and I needed to do next was bershon the shit out of our photos, which we already love to do :)
I went on Amazon and bought a stuffed animal cat, a bike basket and binoculars. If it were not for Amazon Prime, my props probably wouldn't have made it in time.
It was hard to find the portable record player since all my searches on Etsy and Ebay weren't able to ship in time before the party. I even went to a few thrift stores but the only thing I lucked out on was finding this vintage luggage at a random antique store on Union for $30 then spray painted it yellow.
We bought this map from Walgreens and recreated the book Coping With the Troubled Child on Photoshop then taped it on to one of his Breakthrough books.
And there you have it-- Sam Shakusky and Suzy Bishop from Moonrise Kingdom!
