Sea of Cement

This is one of my favorite hot-weather outfits because it's easy to wear and keeps you cool in humid climates, like Washington D.C. in the summer. If you're not familiar with what it's like, you're basically swimming through the air in the humidity; and from my last memory in November, the experience was quite the opposite.

It definitely made sightseeing a breeze and I enjoyed walking around the National Mall to see all the historic places and memorials. I was finally able to see the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool, Jefferson Memorial, and World War II Memorial. I also visited the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History to check out the Hope Diamond. And of course (for me), a trip to DC is not complete without dining at Founders Farmers. I had that tasty Skillet Corn Bread 3 days straight! It's probably a good thing this restaurant is across the country since I could probably eat it everyday!

4th of July in Tahoe

I celebrated the 4th of July in Lake Tahoe; and the weekend consisted of the following: Soccer matches and World Cup viewings, boat rides and Chambers Landing Bar, wake boarding and tubing, BBQ's and fresh farmers market foods, board games like Settlers of Catan, breakfasts at Tahoe House Bakery, and fireworks along the pier. It's definitely my favorite holiday weekend I've spent up here so far.

Summer in Jackson

I've been exploring the outdoors more these days -- based on my weekly trail runs and hikes in Marin. That got me acquainted with nature for my recent trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where I took fly fishing lessons and dodged bears during a hike up to Jenny Lake. Last time, I visited during the winter so it was nice to see what this place is like in warmer temperatures. It's definitely a lot easier to move around when the weather is on your side. Lotus Cafe and The Granary were mandatory stops; along with checking out a few tourist locations like: Mormon Row, Chapel of the Transfiguration, and the National Museum of Wildlife Art.  

I've enjoyed going on these adventures and have built an entire wardrobe -- hiking boots, pants, wool socks and backpack to look the part of an experienced outdoorsman!  Excited to get more use of this gear for an upcoming trip to Iceland in August. The search for a super-serious-jacket is still on; and so far I've set my heart on an Arcteryx and Aether brand. Unfortunately, the options are limited since it's been really difficult shopping for cold-weather clothes during the summer. With that aside, my main goal is to travel as light as possible and pack like a world traveler, the kind who can fit everything in one small luggage/backpack. It'll definitely be a challenge with all the bulky clothes but here's to wishful thinking!
